cdplayer

Am struggling to get the cdplayer to play in Fedora...I have made the symlink
from hdc to cdrom and set the permissions...The drive will open and close and
is spinning but no sound....I can rip a track of the cd and play it using
music player but no o/put from the cdplayer..I know the player is ok as it runs in Mandrake and Debian ok...Any advice welcome.
