And I thank you for your observations.  I was unaware of the things you 
mention and will try to investigate them.  As for preference, I'm only 
certain that I prefer it to sendmail :-)  I don't have very demanding 
needs from my mail system, so perhaps that's a factor.  However, I 
couldn't get sendmail to work at all, probably because of not 
understanding how to configure it.  Qmail (or at least the package from 
qmailrocks.org) had very clear instructions and it "just worked".  You 
might want to take a look at their instruction package, and consider its 
possible merits for your own docs package.
