2.6 kernel "official update"

What are the chances that fedora will release an update to the 2.4 kernel to 2.6 before Fedora 2 release.  In lieu of that how would I go about installing the kernel via rpm?  Would it be the same as any other rpm install?  After install if their is a kernel panic could I choose to boot the older kernel if I do not modify the fstab?
