Just installed Fedora Core 1, VNC server not working right?

Hello all,
I just downloaded and installed Fedora Core 1 on my linux test box. I
generally don't connect a monitor and keyboard directly to this machine
(it's on a switchbox if I need it), but usually when I need to do
something w/X I will use VNC. I've modified the ~/.vnc/xstartup file
and uncomment the two lines @ the top that say:

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
# unset SESSION_MANAGER
# exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

so that I get the normal desktop. In previous releases of RHL I've had
no problems using VNC on the "normal" desktop. However, when I start a
VNC server on Fedora Core 1, I can connect and do anything I want w/the
mouse, but as soon as I try to type something w/the keyboard, the VNC
screen locks. I tried to request a screen refresh, and that results in
a disconnect from the VNC server. It must have something to do w/the
"normal" desktop, because if I re-comment those 2 lines, it brings up
the twm desktop, and I can type in that one just fine... I'm using the
latest version of the windows client that is available from realvnc.com,
v3.3.7.

I noticed this in the vnc log, not sure if it's relevant or not:

Window manager warning: Log level 32: could not find XKB extension.

Does anybody know why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it?

thx

k
