windowmaker fails

It can't find the lib. Maybe try running GNOME, then do:

$ killall metacity && strace wmaker > blah

Then look at near end of ~/blah file, you should see what files it 
tryied to open (libs f.e.) - you'll then know the path and will be able 
to specify if it can find the library and where it looks for it.
