you will runlevel 3
# grep id /etc/inittab
id:3:initdefault:

and not runlevel 5
# grep id /etc/inittab
id:5:initdefault:

you can switch your desktop eg. with
$ switchdesk
$ switchdesk KDE
$ switchdesk GNOME
