Blinking Disk Access Light

I'm having an issue with Fedora Core 1 on an IBM
ThinkPad A31.  When I am logged into an account, the
hard disk access light blinks continuously.  The
flashing is very regular and brief (there is about a 2
second delay between flashes).

This only happens when I am logged in, either with KDE
or Gnome.  Before I log in or when I log out
(returning to GDM or whatever) the flashing stops.

This also happened with the severn Fedora beta.

Any suggestions?  Other than this annoyance, I am very
happy with Core 1.
