Yes (if nothing else, mutt talks IMAP so you can connect to the server 
on localhost)

Yes. There are imap servers which can read most UNIX mail formats, so 
you can dump your existing Maildirs, mboxes or whatever on the server 
and pick an imap server that can read them.
