The tun/tap devices actually can be used on PPC quite well - it comes in
mighty handy when you need to forward a connection from OS X (say a VPN
based connection), to the local linux system, via MOL (mac-on-linux)

Another use of the tun/tap device is actually when you're running User
Mode Linux
