When a module is loaded it looks in a text file called
either /etc/modprobe.conf (2.6 kernel) or /etc/modules.conf to see if there
are any options listed in there for it to use with that module instead of the
defaults.
It sounds like you have a line in there, something like
options 8139too irq=x io=y
edit the /etc/modules.conf //etc/modprobe.conf text file to comment out that
line if it exists (put a # at the start of the line and save). Then do the
modprobe again and see what can be seen.
