CD Burning error "Error trying to open /dev/scd0 exclusively" solved

Hello,
Just in case anyone is needing this info:

The problem:
I have been unable to burn CDs with gToaster, Xcdroast, or k3b in KDE.  
The burn process would fail with the error "Error trying to open 
/dev/scd0 exclusively".

The solution: (for me at least)
kill the kscd applet that was loaded on the KDE panel.  Now it works 
just as it should.
