howto reconfigure kernel

hi guys, 

i've never tried to reconfigure my kernel. as i would like to remove
usb-uhci support and leave it at usb-ohci on my compaq i tried it with
the kernel-sources. but this did not change. 

how can i remove permanently the kernel-module usb-uhci from my current
kernel?

it's just because i get interrupts error from this module while
boot-time and my mouse doesn't work (i hope because of this)
