vim indent file question

 From inside vim, try ":set syntax" and see what it says.
When I open any *.py file it automatically sets to "syntax=python".
If it's not setting the syntax mode appropriately, try ":set 
syntax=python" explicitly.

You may also need to do ":syntax on".
