GDM issues....

Ben, thanks for the rapid response! What a nice welcome to the Fedora
mailing lists!!! :D

Anyhow, it appears that pango was the culprit. I didn't remember seeing
gdm as an updated package in the most recent update I did (which was
probably 2 or 3 days ago), but I DID remember seeing pango. Anyhow, I
checked the version of my existing gdm package, and it was 2.4.4.5-1.
SO I figured I would install the newer version to see if it would solve
the problem. Nope! But what I got was a statement that said that it
required pango libraries which it couldn't find. So putting 2 + 2
together, I figured pango was the problem, reinstalled the RPM from the
CD, like Ben suggested for gdm, reboot, and voila! Everything was back
to normal. So, now I am updating again (possibly stupidly) and will
post the results.

Thanks again, Ben, for the quick reply and the troubleshooting
direction!

-Charlie

Hi Charlie,

A GDM update was released yesterday(ish) with details in the release
notes that may explain the problem you are seeing. The announcement is
here:

If this does not resolve the problem, you should be able backout the gdm
update by re-installing the gdm rpm on your Fedora media. You need to
tell rpm that it is okay to install and older version of gdm. Have a
look at "man rpm" for the full picture.

Cheers, Ben
