Question about kernel source rpms

What is the difference between

    kernel-source-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl.i386.rpm

and 

    kernel-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl.src.rpm

They both have the sources for building the 2149 kernel+modules but I don't understand what the difference is between them and which one I should use to just build a kernel with some extra options turned on. Can someone explain please?
