from /etc/inittab:

Right after it, your default runlevel:
id:5:initdefault:

So, it seems that I have a boot with X enabled. You can change this, for
instance, to runlevel 3, when you have issues with X in general. This
would require a reboot, though.

You can also type "telinit 3" on a console window, as root, so
everything from runlevel 5 is closed. Very useful to close X and gdm
(fedora's login screen) for a while.

To got back to runlevel 5, a "telinit 5" will do.
