USB card reader

I have a cheap smart media card reader (2 Windoze boxes couldn't find
it) but Fedora 2 uses it as /dev/sda1.  I can't unmount it, I just get
the error device is busy and it's not.  I tried su root in a terminal,
and logging out and umount as root but got the same error.  If I reboot
it's not a problem because I don't have it in my FSTAB, is there a way
to restart the device I hate to just yank the card out mounted.
