Thanks.  I got this working around 4am.  I also posted the solution to

you have to download atrpms second... before you try and install the 
kernel-module hostap.  The order is very important, as many of the 
packages depend on the others being installed first.

#yum install atrpms

That's all you have to do... or you can use apt-get as suggested.  
Whatever your preference is.
