In the grub.config file I think its rhbd
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2197.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ rhbd
remove the rhbd

( Mine reads
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2197.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ vga=0x31a
which gives a nice hi-resolution terminal.)
