FC2: While connecting to session manager:Could not open network socket

I have fc2, with apt-get and the things on this page done to the system...

While connecting to session manager:
Could not open network socket.

This is produced from running gnome or kde apps, after I am in X for a while, whether it be in kde or gnome session.  I can usually get it to stop for a while by restarting X.  Once this starts, some programs will not run, and nearly all others take much longer to start.

help?
