rpm on kernel / kernel-source delete.

Hi all,

    When deleting a kernel or kernel-source packages ( or as I just did, 
about 10 at once ) why does RPM feel the need to eat hundreds of megs of 
ram, the res popped up to 330mb and the virt was almost 600 at one stage.
