This is a known bug/problem with the 3C905 card. There is a workaround:

(as root):

chkconfig kudzu off

then reboot, and the card should work fine. I noticed that there is an
update to kudzu that just might fix this problem, but I have not had a
chance to try it yet (I dumped my 3Com card and bought an Intel Ethernet
Pro Card, which worked perfectly right out of the box).
