To explain.

There are headers in emails that are typically hidden unless you
specifically view them.

One of these headers in this case (specific to the mailing list) is
'References:'

This is used to properly index all posts to the mailing list, so that even
if the subject is changed, discussions still get threaded into the right
order. So that when you view list archives via a web browser you can see
exactly who replied to whom, in order.

Simply changing the subject doesn't remove those references, so your
questions appears in the archive in an odd location, rather than at the
start of a thread as it should. I may not be describing this very well.

At least, thats what I assume they're talking about.. given the content
and traffic flow of this list I figure it's not a big deal either way
since threading the amount of noise we get is a waste of time anyway, but
oh well..

I wouldn't worry any more about it.
