This policy is default. So you already managed to open up your Sendmail
configuration.
Check in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc for:
define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A')dnl
TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl
define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl
(activate those mechs you want to use)
and look inside /etc/mail/access for only having there:
localhost.localdomain RELAY
localhost RELAY
127.0.0.1 RELAY
This will prevent mail relaying as long the user does not offer
authentification data.
