Here is what I get now form system log after making your suggested
changes. So I assume that is working...

Mar 10 12:39:45 P2 nmbd[12025]: [2004/03/10 12:39:45, 0]
nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:process_local_master_announce(311)
Mar 10 12:39:45 P2 nmbd[12025]: process_local_master_announce: Server
LAPTOP at IP 192.168.0.141 is announcing itself as a local master
browser for workgroup LOCALDOMAIN and we think we are master. Forcing
election.
Mar 10 12:39:45 P2 nmbd[12025]: [2004/03/10 12:39:45, 0]
nmbd/nmbd_become_lmb.c:unbecome_local_master_success(149)
Mar 10 12:39:45 P2 nmbd[12025]: Samba name server P2 has stopped being
a local master browser for workgroup LOCALDOMAIN on subnet 192.168.0.177
Mar 10 12:40:02 P2 nmbd[12025]: [2004/03/10 12:40:02, 0]
nmbd/nmbd_become_lmb.c:become_local_master_stage2(396)
Mar 10 12:40:02 P2 nmbd[12025]: Samba name server P2 is now a local
master browser for workgroup LOCALDOMAIN on subnet 192.168.0.177

But now (and before those changes) when I try to access my linux machine
from my win lap top, I get the message that says cannot find path
\\p2\opt. p2 being the name of the Linux machine. It used to work, but
now for some reaons, it doesn't.
