Desktop icons disappeared

Oh No. I want never read about linux "after reboot all is fine." ;-))))

If this happens again, you can try to restart nautilus. 

$ killall -9 nautilus

after this, Gnome starts nautilus again. If the X-Server/Gnome crashed, 
you can "strg + alt + backspace" to kill the X-Server and logon again.
