Problems with shell users

This is really curious.

Did you check /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow for correct user account
entries?
I suspect you have modified the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file in some way.
Or did you create any ssh client configuration for the user? Can you ssh
login with a different user?
