It could also be related to how the domains are set up.  If you're connected to NYC-DOMAIN, mapping a share in NJ-DOMAIN will require different credentials than the NYC-DOMAIN.

Can you map a network drive from this PC on any local Windows machine?
You should verify whether this is a local problem (with routing?) or
just a Samba problem.
