mel,
  do some google research and find out what chipset the adapter is, and
then go to the manufacturer's website and grab the drivers.

  if this is a single nic system (only the wireless adapter), then just
try going to the terminal and su -'ing over to root and running

netconfig eth0

it may be that kudzu didn't configure the network settings for it for you.
