"Checking new hardware..."

I'm running an MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo, with NForce2 chipset, and is it
just me, or is the 'Checking for new hardware" slow as molasses, and the
update for etc/fstab takes about 10 minutes to complete?

This is after an ACPI on install, with SELinux on also.  The install
went flawlessly, except for the no sound issue with my SB Audigy, but
man... that update time seems to be horrible.

Any ideas on how I can make the bootup time any faster?
