I'm guessing the sound driver hasn't been configured correctly. For me
- the installer/kudzu did the config properly (P-M laptop). I didn't
run system-config-sound

You could try removing the current config (from /etc/modprobe.conf) -
remove /etc/sysconfig/hwconfig - reboot - and see if 'kudzu'
reconfigures sound correctly.
