show desktop icon?

Hello :)
I can only help you right now if you are using KDE.  Do the following:
"Right click on blank portion of KDE's Kicker | Add | Special Button | Desktop 
Access"  This will place the icon that you desired in your KDE startbar 
(Kicker).  I will try to remember later to find out if I can accomplish the 
same thing in GNOME.  I will let you know either way.
