RULE has documented installs of a modified Red Hat Linux 9 in 8MB of RAM
on a 486/25. So what you want is *possible* although marginal. Check
their website for more details.

Note: in 8MB, I think you can only do text mode. Graphical anything is
going to require memory more than that.
