I can confirm this. In fact, applying the *any-any-* toolkit caused it
to break; bridged networking wouldn't start and VMware was left
permanently in "not configured" state. Re-running vmware-config.pl did
not fix this.

Why? What difference does is make, given that
directory /etc/udev/devices already exists?
