Fedora won't boot after upgrade from FC2 to FC3

Hi,

I have browsed through the latest month archives and could not find an
answer to my problem. Hope that someone can help! I'm getting
desperate...

Just upgraded from FC2 to FC3 and the upgrade process went without
hassles. However, after the upgrade FC3 won't boot at all. No
particular error messages that gives any real clues.

The GRUB-loader kicks in and shows a menu containing only one entry. My
old kernels seem to have been removed.

After selecting that kernel and trying to boot, the following appears
on screen. There might be a few chars wrong, i'm typing this manually.

-- snip ---
'Booting 'Fedora Core (2.6.9-1.667)'

Root(hd0,0)
Filesystem is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=/dev/hda5
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0x155da5]
initrd /initrd-2.6.9-1.667-img
[Linux-initrd @ 0xff90000 0x5ff87 bytes]
-- snip ---

Is it a Grub problem? Seems that way since no kernel output is
displayed.

What to do? My old kernels are gone and I can not boot those. My old
grub.conf is deleted and I can't copy entries from there if that would
be the problem.

But the entry above looks quite ok I think. My root is on /dev/hda5 and
the packages have been updated there. Just booted Knoppix and
everything seems to be in place.

Would appreciate any help you could give me.

Best regards

Andreas
