FC2: file-roller does not create archives

Just an older problem which I came across again: I cannot create
archives with file-roller on my desktop - it just does not accept files
or folders regardless the options I tried. Also I cannot create archives
with file-roller using nautilus.

But I found out that file-roller is working perfectly on my laptop. If
anybody has had a similar experience it would be nice - searching the
list did not help, google-ing neither (it seems just to be me).

Hence I'm using gnome, it would be nice to have file-roller working on
my desktop too.
