Not really. As a package ages, updates keep it current but new releases
contain additional packages and configuration differences. Using yum to
update to a new release will not have the same outcome as installing a
new release and allowing the installer to perform the upgrade.

Yum handles dependencies very nicely, avoiding the moebius strip of
dependency hell.
