BTW: the localrepo is useful when starting from .src.rpm.(as indicated
earlier)

'yum localinstall foo.rpm' is equivalent (actually better) to your
'rpm -ivh foo.rpm'

- prevents --force
- resoves dependencies - and can install dependent/compat-* packages automatically
