Remove "rhgb" from your /etc/grub.conf entry to stop it doing that. For 
example, change:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb

to:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=LABEL=/
