System Tools Root Password Prompt

Have you changed your PATH from the default?  The system config tools
will not function properly if you prepend /usr/sbin to a normal user's
PATH.

It should look something like this with no sbin directories:
$ echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/home/${USER}/bin:/usr/lib/jre/bin
