FC3: "No soundcards detected"

That may well be true but the problem is the error messages
that Fedora gives.
If you  clicks  on soundcard detection it gives
you the option to "Play Test Sound".  
If you click on that it will ask you "Did you hear the sample
sound."  If you answer no the reply is:

"Automatic detection of the sound card did not work.  Audio
will not be available on the system.  Please click on OK
to continue."

I gave up at that point.  I suspect I'm not alone.
My problem turned out to be an obscure (to me) volume
setting.  

A warning in the unofficial FAQ might well be in order.


Advice to those still having problems: Do check that
you have *really* maxed out every possible volume setting.
