palm pilot not sync

yes! i booted into 2.6.9-1.667 and now i get:

# pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot -L

runs perfect. but j pilot seems not to see it , nor the gnome pilot, 
which i'm tyrying to setup. i get to the initial sync, i hit hotsync and 
nothing
