First of all: how did you install cyrus? did you download it from somewhere????
a) cyrus is shipped with your cd's on fedora core 2 (cd 3 & 4)
b) as Alexander said, better use yum for the installation, cyrus has lots of dependencies and needs 4 rpms:
- cyrus-sasl (should already been installed)
installing it via yum also creates a user called cyrus, which you have to use tocreate your databases.
after your installation do:
- start cyrus-sals : /sbin/service/saslauthd start
- start cyrus-imapd: /sbin/service/cyrus-imapd start
to create the user-mailboxes, su to cyrus (do not forget to give him a password before....) and start the
admin-program: cyradm localhost
you will have to indicate your password for your cyrus-user again, otherwise you will fail to get into the
now you can manage your mailboxes. By default, cyrus & saslauthd authenticates against users in your /etc/passwd
/etc/shadow -files. So, you will have to create the appropriate users for your mailboxes. If you like to use mysql
BEFORE YOU INSTALL MAKE SURE YOU REMOVED YOUR OLD CYRUS-INSTALLATION PROPERLY, DO NOT FORGET TO MV IMAPD.CONF AND
CYRUS.CONF TO OTHER FILENAMES.
let us know, if this helps.
