You may want to set up just a box for a router and firewall.  I've found
www.freesco.org easy and the list helpful.

P.S. don't laugh, OK go ahead, but in my small apartment I didn't have
much room so I screwed an old P75 board w/16 mb of ram and a floppy
drive and 2 nics to a piece of plywood.  The power supply is grounded,
so that's not a problem.  But freeesco runs on just a floppy.  And it
fits under my end table.  You can set it up to have no keyboard and
monitor, and control it from another machine.  Ask the list, they will
help you.
