I must say that I use up2date regularly and without any big problems. I
don't use yum nor apt for updating my systems.

It is best if you change your up2date setup to point to self chosen
mirror servers. With the random choice you have a good chance to get a
mirror which is no good source for your location.

Some month ago I wrote a little paper to explain backgrounds and the way
to change the sources file for up2date. Though it was for FC1 as target
system you can still follow it for FC2:
