how to play dvd

I have a DVD reader / CD rewriter and have never played a DVD in it. I 
installed xine (yum install xine) and all went well but it says it can't find 
the dvd and, indeed, there is no /dev/dvd on my file system. There is, of 
course, a /dev/cdrom, which I use frequently, but the dvd/cdrom are the same 
physical drive.

Perhaps I need to "set up" my dvd player? Any ideas?
