wierd and specific SMTP connectivity problem between fedora core 2 and Lotus Domino Release 6.5.1

I'm having trouble getting mail to mail.telebrands.com.

Troubleshooting by telnet to mail.telebrands.com port 25 from 2
different fedora core 2 boxes on completely different networks I get the
following behavior: it takes about 30-40s to get the SMTP server banner,
NOOP commands are answered promptly, but other commands end up with the
connection timing out. A typical session looks like this:

$ telnet mail.telebrands.com 25

Trying 206.135.111.222...

Connected to mail.telebrands.com.

Escape character is '^]'.

220 TBNJLN.telebrands.com ESMTP Service (Lotus Domino Release 6.5.1)
ready at Thu, 23 Sep 2004 19:17:02 -0400 (takes about 30-40 seconds to
come up)

noop

250 OK

Both fedora core 2 boxes are current with up2date.

Do you get similar behavior with a telnet from a fedora core 2 box to
mail.telebrands.com port 25?

Responses to ssh connections to this same machine are snappy. Similar
connections to port 25 from windows machines on the same subnet as the
fedora boxes have no problems or delays. Similar connections to port 25
from a redhat 7.0 and 9.0 box have no problems or delays. The fedora
core 2 boxes have had no similar problems in consistently delivering
mail to many, many other domains.

What could be the problem connecting from these fedora 2 boxes to this
one Lotus Domino Release 6.5.1 SMTP server and how can I fix it?

Thanks
