hibernating problems with FC2 in a ThinkPad T42 ...

APM should work.  Include "acpi=off" on the kernel line in /etc/grub.conf.

Haven't tried ACPI yet with my T41.  Let us know if you get it working.
If I could suspend to RAM, I'd try to make the switch.
