How to get cdrecord working in FC2?

Updated to the latest cdrtools and k3b. cdrecord -v -scanbus dev=ATAPI
still works, but k3b as root still hangs and dies.

[pybe at help pybe]$ uname -r
2.6.8-1.521
[pybe at help pybe]$ ps waux | grep k3b
root      3492  1.0  2.9 38192 18876 pts/0   D    17:36   0:01 k3b
pybe      3564  0.0  0.0  4672  596 pts/1    S    17:39   0:00 grep k3b

Has anyone else got any issues similar to this?

Why do I seem to be the only one who cannot use k3b even as root?
