problems using Yum

I think so too Craig. Let us not start another war, one about the
"right" tool to manage updates and package installations. Some like yum
or even up2date with reasons, others prefer apt with reasons and a third
party already experiments with smartpm.

I don't think above error has to do with a proxy usage. To me the
backtrace looks as if an error occured during md5 checksum checking.
Probably either metadata or a downloaded package got corrupted.

I suggested that too (yum clean all) to erase corrupted files.
